The Plight

This poem began as an exploration of Joan of Arc’s final days—specifically the psychological weight of standing before a "circle of men" who had already decided her truth was a lie.

The Plight
    A shadow of light
    beyond hope
    dancing in the abyss
    on a frozen rope
    A circle of men
    pointing to the burning moon
    bound to a tainted
    truth that’s coming soon
    A bridge passing
    through a sea of lust
    tumbling on a world
    that’s turned to dust
    Beyond the last wave
    of a tarnished truth
    far away from a ghost
    hidden in my youth
    Tangled in a web of
    lies on a falling star
    that’s you who’s crooning
    loud from far
    A hound of sight trapped
    in a window of love
    a beast burning
in this hollow shade of dove
    A mirror below the sun
    keeping her armor bright
the only truth in a lifeless
    world rooted in her plight
